Stay Cool! God Bless

God can be gentle like a moth or harsh like a lion, it all depends on how sensitive you are to His voice.

Can you recognize His voice when He speaks to you?

Pastor Franklin refers to something he once heard.  "A U.S. Treasury officer who had a job of identifying counterfeit dollar bills. He said, ‘The key to identifying a false bill is to spend hours and hours handling the real thing.’  In other words, you have to get a ‘feel for the real’ if you want to identify the fake."

How does this relate to us knowing the voice of God?  Is that what you are thinking……you must spend time in prayer and HIS word, the bible.  If you are merely reading the bible to just say you read it, then what have you learned?  Not much.  You may be able to tell a few of the stories or quote a few verses, but what really have you learned?

Having a relationship with God is more then just verbally claiming it once you have said the prayer asking for salvation.  Oh and it is more then just being able to say you are baptized.  A real relationship is LIVING for him. Obeying His commands, even if it requires great sacrifice on your part.  I know it requires lots of Self-discipline, and we will find ourselves failing from time to time.  Know that God will and wants to forgive you.  You must humble before him asking him for his forgiveness.  He is a merciful, loving God.  His is vengefully, jealous, and wrathful one. "The Lord is slow to anger and great in power; the Lord will not leave the guilty unpunished. …" Nahum 1:3 (NIV)  I personally find great comfort in knowing that not only does he want a relationship with me, but that he is ever so forgiving.  Now this doesn’t mean I go out purposefully looking for ways to break his commands, but it happens.  I am human.  I try to live a righteous life, but due to being human there are times I hinder His light, say something I shouldn’t, or act in a way I know I shouldn’t.  He knows our weaknesses, he created us.  That is why he sent his son, Jesus.  So that we may be saved.  No matter how hard I might try to obey every command or do NO wrong, the simple truth is I will fail.  I will do or say something I shouldn’t, but that is why we must hold ourselves in check.  Allow our close Christian friends to hold us accountable.  I have even gone as far as asking my own pastor to hold me accountable in a few areas.  My pastor is more then a pastor, he is a friend and a father figure.  I value his insight.  I like to call on him sometimes to ensure I am understanding God’s word correctly, but I find when I spend more time with God himself, the need for me to bother my pastor is less.  The confusion is removed.  Having a keen ear to hear the voice of the Lord when he speaks like a moth fluttering by brings such joy and peace.  Now this doesn’t mean you won’t have to fight off the enemy’s attempt to bring in confusion or doubt, but the battle is easy when you let go and let God. 🙂

When he speaks to us, there is a stirring in our spirit, our soul, our mind, and our heart.  When we seek answers about a particular thing or person.  He does answer.  How can we tell?  That is what I will cover when I return.

**********I do apologize, but I must stop here for now.  I will return.*******

I have been asking God to know when to blog on Chapter 2, when I began to read it the first time, I found I was interrupted by life.  Yesterday, I re-read a portion and finished it.  There is so much in this chapter that my mind is overwhelmed and looking at the time, I must step a way.  I will continue to ask God for His words for when I return.

I do apologize.

This sections begins with a question.

7) What added insights does the apostle Paul provide in Romans 13 about the importance of being light in the midst of a dark world?  How does he contrast these two ways of living?

In Romans 13 the subject is Government how we are to live abidingly.

I have read this chapter a few times, each time a different verse pops out as to be highlighted.  This morning I found comfort in knowing why I do not fear the police, but respect them. In verse 3 "For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil.  Do you want to have no fear of authority?  Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same;" (NAS)  This would apply to children in school obeying the rules, children and adults a like in obeying the laws of the land.

Verse 1 states why we have authority on the land, "…For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God." (NAS)

Verse 12, "The night is almost gone, and the day is at hand.  Let us therefore lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light." (NAS)  This tells us to prepare ourselves.  The armor of God is written in Ephesians 6.  Here in Romans, we are told to simply obey submitting to good, not disobeying them by being resistant, submitting to evil.

I have been reading a lot about being prepared, then on Mother’s Day, my Pastor’s wife gave a wonderful sermon on Ephesians.  Also this past Wednesday in the absence of Pastor due to him being on vacation, we had a fill-in and the topic was being prepared and it referred to the same scriptures she used.  This a reminder this morning due to a recap to write this blog.  I say this to emphasize, "Be Prepared for HIS return!"

I can tell when I put the armor of God on in the mornings and keep it on all day verses the days I do not.  I tend to handle crisis better and think clearer.

Okay Back to question 7.

My response was: He relates light and darkness to right and wrong.  We are to walk in a way that God’s light can shine and not the enemy’s darkness.

8) Why was John so adamant in the opening paragraph of his epistle about his firsthand experience with Christ?

My response was: To show or remind the people that what he had to say was based on truth, fact, first hand experience, NOT hearsay as the modern day teaching being presented.  To show validation!

9) What does confession have to do with gaining forgiveness in 1 John 1:9? How is admission of sin and guilt a prerequisite to salvation?

My response was: If you are not aware of what you have done wrong, then how can you change to prevent from doing wrong again. Plus His word says, if you claim to have no wrong (sin) then you make God a liar revealing that HIS word is NOT in you.  We are told how to be cleansed of our sin in verse 9, "If we confess our sins, HE is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (NAS)  This reminds me of the ABCs.  Admit. Believe. Confess. Admit your sin to yourself.  Believe in God and His word. Confess your sins to God through his son Jesus Christ.

The ABCs tends to have a couple of saying depending on whether you are already saved or not.  If not, then it goes like this.  Admit there is a Christ.  Believe He is. Confess your sin to HIM.  Then ask for His forgiveness and ask that He would save you and to come into your heart.  Believe you have been saved and He is with you.  Confess your relationship with Him to others.

He already knows all your sins before you confess.  Confessing openly shows your willing heart.  Asking for forgiveness is a way of submission and transformation, change in yourself.   Releasing your sin, letting go of them.

10) Why did John have such a high view of Christ, the "Word of life"?

My response was: "Who wouldn’t"? I did not have the pleasure of knowing Christ when he walked the earth, the thought of it is like AWE! A place in my mind of being in awe of his presence.  Anyway, John knew who Christ was (is) not only because of physically being in his presence.  His word said those who had a relationship with God knew him.  John knew Jesus was Christ because of his faithfulness and because of walking and being with him in submission to the willingness of serving HIM.

If you truly know HIM and have a relationship with HIM, you can’t help but have a higher love for HIM!  Those who know HIM want to do HIS will by obeying HIS commands and in submission to HIS will by serving.

{May 15, 2008}   Influences

Influences can be commercials, friends, neighbors, or the community. Many are septible to the influence of a friend they hold in high regards or neighbor or a member in the community. This person being held in high regard is usually considered to be better then the person being influenced either in knowledge, class, or financially. Their influence will not only impact the desire for a particular brand or product, but also in political elections as well.

I wrote and used this in a class thread and felt like sharing it here. 🙂

The End Times

I have heard a few comments about what is going on in today’s world.  Some are God fearing people and some are not.  The comments are "I am afraid of depression…", "This world is going to suffer…", "How are we going to make it…", and the list goes on.

Let us hear the word of the Lord, which He has spoken to us via his word.  Jeremiah 10:2 "…Do not learn the way of the nations, and do not be terrified by the signs of the heavens although the nations are terrified by them…"

We know the end days are not going to be easy, that is why we must stay prepared.  I am not talking about growing a garden, although that is a good idea if you can afford it, it cost lots of personal time, fertilizing, and water.  I AM TALKING ABOUT your soul, be prepared at all times. We, who know HIM know He is great, great is his name in might, Jeremiah 10:6

So don’t fret about the gas prices or the economy, trust in the Lord!  If you need to drive around to get from point A to point B, HE will provide.   Lean on HIM!!!!!!!!!!

Romans 13:11-14

11) And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.

To wake out of sleep….that could mean a few things depending on your interpretation of it.  To me, it means to become aware of.

12) The night is far spent, the day is at hand.  Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.

The first part basically is telling us to let the past go, live now for HIM, live today "the day at hand".  Cast off the failures, the weaknesses, the sins.  Turn them over to HIM, walk in love, forgiving those who have sinned against you, who have done you wrong, and to forgive yourself.

13) Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy.

Walk properly…NO matter how hard we try to walk perfectly, we can NOT, but to walk properly does NOT mean perfectly.  WE will stumble and we will fall, but our GOAL should be to not stumble or fall.  Isn’t it comforting to know that when we do fall, we can ask in Jesus name for forgiveness and KNOW we will receive it.  NOW this doesn’t mean we will not suffer the consequences for our choices or actions, nor will we escape his judgement in the end.  BUT Know this, WE ARE NOT CONDEMNED.  "Casting off the works of darkness" can be done by going to God in prayer through Jesus name and ask for HIS forgiveness.  Walk Not unrestrained (not revelry), not in a frenzy or madness or drunk, not to be unaware, not in ignorant or vulgar way, not with intense sexual desire, not in anger, and not in envy. (The word envy is broad and basically means wanting what other’s have, but we should NOT envy, we should be satisfied with what GOD gives you.)

Wow, I have failed at those, not on a continual basis, thank goodness, but I have failed at those things in my past both immediate and distant.  To be honest the possibility of me failing at them tomorrow does exists.  My GOAL is not to fail and to walk properly, but I am human.  THANK YOU GOD FOR YOUR GRACE AND MERCY!!!

I have found someone who I feel God has brought into my life and what attracts me most is his love for GOD and his dedication to God and his wiliness to submit to God’s will and purpose.  To be honest the physical attraction is a bonus, but with GOD’s help we will show self control and wait.  We are merely human beings and thankfully God does not expect us to be perfect, but we should aim to be ….to do as Jesus did.

14) But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.

geeees….I failed big time on this one.  Don’t you ever have a desire for something or someone, you may not act on that desire, but you think it….well guess what…thinking it counts as if you were doing it.  God knows how we feel and think…Jesus walked this earth experiencing the same temptations, but HE resisted, we should resist it to, but God’s word does say that if you can not walk without fulfilling the desire of the flesh, then it is best to marry therefore you will not live in sin.  This doesn’t mean you should marry so you can fulfill the desire of the flesh (sex).  You will surely be miserable if that is the only reason you marry.  You should have a common love and desire to lay down your life for the Lord.  You should have different traits and likes, but with many that are similar.  You should like not only to look at that individual, but to be around them, to be hear their voice, to ….the list can go on.

This concludes this small portion of "Going Deeper", the next section is "Exploring the Meaning."

{May 4, 2008}   God’s Grace

I have been in AWE all day today.

You see there has been so much going on in the last week and a half, it is so unreal.  Have you ever prayed about something only to discover the delay in response, but knew God has a reason?  Well, there have been some long time prayer requests in my life that have been answered in the last week.  WooHOO!! Haraah!!!  PRAISE GOD…I give him all the GLORY for it is rightfully HIS!!!!!!!

Prayer request and time frame:  my sewer line being clogged that was a couple months, the toilet that kept running water was like 11 months, paying a debit off that was like 1.5 years, and one more, personal, that has been at least 1.5 to 2 years.

These request all being answered All at once, WOW!!!  Talk about overwhelming, but in a great way.

I have been so tired today, but I am so full of joy and peace.
