Genuine Salvation…..do you have it?

You can read this section along with the sections, keys to the text and unleashing the text.  I will share a few things I underlined while reading.

"John cites a moral test of genuine fellowship: obedience to God’s commands.  While subjective assurance of salvation comes through the internal witness of the Holy Spirit, the test of obedience constitutes objective assurance that one is genuinely saved.  He argued that obedience is the external, visible proof of salvation. " page 15, chapter 2

Now does this mean, that when I fail to be obedient that I am doomed? Thankfully no.  Remember Christ died on the cross, so we, the fallen, may be saved.  I have been a Christian for a long time.  Meaning that I have known of His presence, believed, and died to myself becoming reborn in Him.  Now when I was younger, I couldn’t read his word and depended on the older adults, not necessarily my parents.  Which I intend to change for my household.  I have made it a point to study with them and help provide understanding.  So my children will have a knowledge of him an awareness of Him.  Thankfully God had me in His arms at a very young age.  He has guided me through some trials.  Trials I brought upon myself.  Some the enemy brought on me.   He has forgiven me for many things, some you might think are silly.  Like disobeying my parents.  But that is one of His commands.

Well now in my adult years, I find I still fall flat on my face.  I have allowed situations to get the best of me both in romance and non-romance.  Does this mean my salvation is false.  Thankfully no, but I have to test myself against His word.  Seek His will, His understanding, His wisdom, His knowledge, His Love, His forgiveness, His discernment and all of HIM.  Yes, when we repent with an earnest heart, He is true to his word and forgives.  That doesn’t mean we won’t suffer His wrath, but we will feel His love.  For he disciplines those that belongs to Him.

Sometimes, I wonder how this world lives day in and day out with out His presences.  I don’t want to live with out HIS presence in my life.  My Salvation is tested on a continual basis against His word.  I don’t take it for granted, do you?  Do you live as He desire or as you desire?

Do you think salvation and judgement are the same?  I do not.  Those that do not know Christ do not have salvation and will be band from heaven.   Both Christians and non-Christians will face Christ on judgement day.  Those however that do know Christ, but fail to keep themselves in ‘right’ standing with Him will face a judgement I do not want to knowAll Christians fail at one point or another for we are mere humans. I thought I would ensure clearity for future readers.  But those who fail and do not repent before judgement day…..well I don’t want to be in their shoes. What will the out come be….read His word.  But, I do know this, I don’t want to be one facing Him on judgement day and not be ready.  When I see the Almighty Father, the GOD of Gods, I want him to look upon me and say, "Well done my good and faithful servant (daughter), with thee I am pleased."  I do my best to live for Him removing myself from the equation, but it is hard to do.  I have to stay in His word and with him always.  I know my name is in the Lambs book of Life, is yours?

There are six questions that follow this section, which I will blog later.  Good night for now.

{September 13, 2008}   Obedience and Love: Drawing Near

1 John 2:3-17

If a stranger approached you on the street corner and asked, "what must I do to be saved?" how would you respond?

I would share the ABC’s first.  A: admit to being a sinner B: believe Jesus is the Christ.  C: confess the sins and the belief in prayer asking Jesus into your heart.  To have the will to die to oneself and become reborn in HIM.  I may add more to the discussion depending on the person, what questions are asked, and depending on what they already know about Jesus.

If that same stranger inquired, "Tell me how you know for sure that you are right with God and headed for heaven," how would you respond?

I live every day, every moment, every second asking Him for HIS will to be done.  I stay in prayer, in HIS word, and acknowledge Him seeking His guidance via the Holy Spirit.  I may fail, for I am human, but I do my best in sacrificing myself so that HE may live through me.

12)  Are you walking in the light and living in joy because of your fellowship with Christ and other believers?  If not, what sins do you need to confess and forsake today?

My response was written several months ago, but still valid today. 🙂

Yes, I walk in the light and pray his light shines through.  Thankfully all known sins have already been cleansed as April 24, 2008 12pm.  Still today too September 2, 2008 6am.

I had a rough Monday, great Saturday and Sunday.  Monday was filled with mixed emotions.  The enemy playing racquet ball in there, but the Lord helped me to overcome.  I had feelings of uselessness, unloved, worthlessness, loneliness, ugliness, all that you can think of.  BUT, I stayed in HIS presences, in HIS word and overcome the battle.  I woke up knowing GOD has my life all prepared and this day belongs to him as I return to work, Chris and Matt return to school.   My heart, soul and mind belong to him.  HIS will not mine.

Another area I struggled with this weekend was patients, and the enemy did try to tempt me.  I didn’t get to see the man I feel God has sent me, but the enemy was quick to try an supply others.  I stayed faithful to HIM and to one I feel HE sent me.  I stayed faith mentally and physically.  Praise GOD for that.  Ya know we are humans just like those in the world, but the difference is we have a higher source of POWER to overcome this world and its temptations.  We do not have to fall subjective to them.  Make a decision to stay away from it and you can.  It is hard, but as you continue to choose the right choice it gets easier.

I just realized why I had these struggles.  To share with you. 😀  Good Day now, God bless.

This section begins with question 11.

11) "John began this epistle by telling of his personal encounter with Jesus. What is your testimony to the reality of Christ? When did you first know He is the way, the truth, and the life, and when did you put your faith in Him?" (pg 12).

Believe it or not, when I asked a few people this question.  Some were resistant as if there were a wrong answer, some were spouting anything that came to mind, and a few even got upset over it.  Can you imagine?  Not sure why anyone would get upset or feel they have to impress someone.  The simple answers are just as power as the major ones. 🙂  It is HIS glory after all and He can shine in big and small things.

I have so many testimonies, none really that jump out at me at this particular moment.  BUT in my defense, I am rushing against time….I have to go to work soon.  Most recently, the change within myself.  A sense of value or the blessing via the plumbing problem that God took care of for me.  By this I mean a plumbing company came out to my house and fixed a major issue of where my lines were clogged.  I did not have to pay a thing.  Keep in mind this company drove 19 to 29 miles to get here and with gas prices, he didn’t even charge for travel, not his time, and not for the service.  WOW!!!!!  You know what this person said?  He asked if I went to church.  I stated yes and told him which one.  He then responded, "Consider this seed sown."  That was Christ working through him.  I did not have the money, but had to have my drain lines fixed.  God knew this and provided. Hallelujah!!!

I put my faith in him while I was in kindergarten or pre-K, I was about 5 years old, when I came to know my Father and Savior.

I will finish this section later….time for work. Enjoy.

{August 26, 2008}   Christ and Sin: Truth for Today

Did Jesus really exist?  I believe he did and does.  What do you believe?

The answer to this question will determine whether you are truly a child of God or not.

This section basically gives us information on two historians who wrote about Jesus and states He is Christ.  The historians: Tacitus and Josephus.

This sections begins with a question.

7) What added insights does the apostle Paul provide in Romans 13 about the importance of being light in the midst of a dark world?  How does he contrast these two ways of living?

In Romans 13 the subject is Government how we are to live abidingly.

I have read this chapter a few times, each time a different verse pops out as to be highlighted.  This morning I found comfort in knowing why I do not fear the police, but respect them. In verse 3 "For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil.  Do you want to have no fear of authority?  Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same;" (NAS)  This would apply to children in school obeying the rules, children and adults a like in obeying the laws of the land.

Verse 1 states why we have authority on the land, "…For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God." (NAS)

Verse 12, "The night is almost gone, and the day is at hand.  Let us therefore lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light." (NAS)  This tells us to prepare ourselves.  The armor of God is written in Ephesians 6.  Here in Romans, we are told to simply obey submitting to good, not disobeying them by being resistant, submitting to evil.

I have been reading a lot about being prepared, then on Mother’s Day, my Pastor’s wife gave a wonderful sermon on Ephesians.  Also this past Wednesday in the absence of Pastor due to him being on vacation, we had a fill-in and the topic was being prepared and it referred to the same scriptures she used.  This a reminder this morning due to a recap to write this blog.  I say this to emphasize, "Be Prepared for HIS return!"

I can tell when I put the armor of God on in the mornings and keep it on all day verses the days I do not.  I tend to handle crisis better and think clearer.

Okay Back to question 7.

My response was: He relates light and darkness to right and wrong.  We are to walk in a way that God’s light can shine and not the enemy’s darkness.

8) Why was John so adamant in the opening paragraph of his epistle about his firsthand experience with Christ?

My response was: To show or remind the people that what he had to say was based on truth, fact, first hand experience, NOT hearsay as the modern day teaching being presented.  To show validation!

9) What does confession have to do with gaining forgiveness in 1 John 1:9? How is admission of sin and guilt a prerequisite to salvation?

My response was: If you are not aware of what you have done wrong, then how can you change to prevent from doing wrong again. Plus His word says, if you claim to have no wrong (sin) then you make God a liar revealing that HIS word is NOT in you.  We are told how to be cleansed of our sin in verse 9, "If we confess our sins, HE is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (NAS)  This reminds me of the ABCs.  Admit. Believe. Confess. Admit your sin to yourself.  Believe in God and His word. Confess your sins to God through his son Jesus Christ.

The ABCs tends to have a couple of saying depending on whether you are already saved or not.  If not, then it goes like this.  Admit there is a Christ.  Believe He is. Confess your sin to HIM.  Then ask for His forgiveness and ask that He would save you and to come into your heart.  Believe you have been saved and He is with you.  Confess your relationship with Him to others.

He already knows all your sins before you confess.  Confessing openly shows your willing heart.  Asking for forgiveness is a way of submission and transformation, change in yourself.   Releasing your sin, letting go of them.

10) Why did John have such a high view of Christ, the "Word of life"?

My response was: "Who wouldn’t"? I did not have the pleasure of knowing Christ when he walked the earth, the thought of it is like AWE! A place in my mind of being in awe of his presence.  Anyway, John knew who Christ was (is) not only because of physically being in his presence.  His word said those who had a relationship with God knew him.  John knew Jesus was Christ because of his faithfulness and because of walking and being with him in submission to the willingness of serving HIM.

If you truly know HIM and have a relationship with HIM, you can’t help but have a higher love for HIM!  Those who know HIM want to do HIS will by obeying HIS commands and in submission to HIS will by serving.

Romans 13:11-14

11) And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.

To wake out of sleep….that could mean a few things depending on your interpretation of it.  To me, it means to become aware of.

12) The night is far spent, the day is at hand.  Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.

The first part basically is telling us to let the past go, live now for HIM, live today "the day at hand".  Cast off the failures, the weaknesses, the sins.  Turn them over to HIM, walk in love, forgiving those who have sinned against you, who have done you wrong, and to forgive yourself.

13) Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy.

Walk properly…NO matter how hard we try to walk perfectly, we can NOT, but to walk properly does NOT mean perfectly.  WE will stumble and we will fall, but our GOAL should be to not stumble or fall.  Isn’t it comforting to know that when we do fall, we can ask in Jesus name for forgiveness and KNOW we will receive it.  NOW this doesn’t mean we will not suffer the consequences for our choices or actions, nor will we escape his judgement in the end.  BUT Know this, WE ARE NOT CONDEMNED.  "Casting off the works of darkness" can be done by going to God in prayer through Jesus name and ask for HIS forgiveness.  Walk Not unrestrained (not revelry), not in a frenzy or madness or drunk, not to be unaware, not in ignorant or vulgar way, not with intense sexual desire, not in anger, and not in envy. (The word envy is broad and basically means wanting what other’s have, but we should NOT envy, we should be satisfied with what GOD gives you.)

Wow, I have failed at those, not on a continual basis, thank goodness, but I have failed at those things in my past both immediate and distant.  To be honest the possibility of me failing at them tomorrow does exists.  My GOAL is not to fail and to walk properly, but I am human.  THANK YOU GOD FOR YOUR GRACE AND MERCY!!!

I have found someone who I feel God has brought into my life and what attracts me most is his love for GOD and his dedication to God and his wiliness to submit to God’s will and purpose.  To be honest the physical attraction is a bonus, but with GOD’s help we will show self control and wait.  We are merely human beings and thankfully God does not expect us to be perfect, but we should aim to be ….to do as Jesus did.

14) But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.

geeees….I failed big time on this one.  Don’t you ever have a desire for something or someone, you may not act on that desire, but you think it….well guess what…thinking it counts as if you were doing it.  God knows how we feel and think…Jesus walked this earth experiencing the same temptations, but HE resisted, we should resist it to, but God’s word does say that if you can not walk without fulfilling the desire of the flesh, then it is best to marry therefore you will not live in sin.  This doesn’t mean you should marry so you can fulfill the desire of the flesh (sex).  You will surely be miserable if that is the only reason you marry.  You should have a common love and desire to lay down your life for the Lord.  You should have different traits and likes, but with many that are similar.  You should like not only to look at that individual, but to be around them, to be hear their voice, to ….the list can go on.

This concludes this small portion of "Going Deeper", the next section is "Exploring the Meaning."

"from the beginning"  What do you think about when you read those 3 words?

In the bible these words emphasis the stability of the gospel.  Its contents do not change.  On page 8, you will find references to this, the writers go on to stress, "It is not subject to change due to current worldly fads or philosophical thinking."  SO TRUE!

Here John is reminding the people, "..we have heard….we have seen…we have looked upon…our hands have handled."  He is referring to Jesus walking the earth, God in human form (the son of man), and how we must believe this to be true.  That He was not a spirit, he was real.

Again it is stated how John dramatically uses his own first hand experience with Jesus in contrast to the false teachings by teachers who had never seen or known Christ.

This section has the scripture all broke down and real good reading.

Moving on to question 1 in this section.  What was the purpose of John writing this epistle?

To help the people not be mislead by false teachings.  To help the people remember the truth, Jesus was and is real.  Not only did He, Jesus Christ, live and walk the earth, but he and God were, are the same.  The deity.

2) How did John describe his experience with Christ…?

By reminding the people, us, of his personal relationship with Jesus.  His first hand experience.  John knew Jesus and was there at the cross and after it was all said and done.

3) God is Light….what does that phrase mean?

In the simplest terms, to me, that means He is truth.  His good, He is abundant, and mostly He overcomes the enemy, Satan.  He can help me to beat Satan during those trying times, to stomp on him as Christ did the snake.

4) What does "walk in the light" mean?  What manner of life is demonstrated?

For us to live in truth, His truth….His will not our own.  To accept that we sin, and know we can come to Him for mercy.  After all that is why Jesus’s blood was spilt (shed) on the cross, so we may be forgiven.  He was the ultimate sacrifice, and Jesus had no sin to ask the Lord for forgiveness, but instead He took our sins upon himself and asked the Lord to forgive us.  At that moment, God, the Lord turned his back to him.  I often wondered why, but as I heard Pastor refer to this passage this morning, it hit me like a brick.  God can not look upon sin, He is the holy of holies and despises sin, yet He loves the sinner and provided the ultimate sacrifice in order that we may find forgiveness.  His son, himself in deity form.  That is why we come to the Father through Christ in prayer.

5) What are signs that a person is deceived and not living by the truth?

When a person can not see or admit his own sin….to claim their life to be with out sin.

If a person can not accept or admit that Jesus Christ was a real person, the son of God, God in deity form.

6) God’s response to those who honestly confess their sin(s)?

He being faithful and righteous has mercy on us and shows us grace by forgiving us.  Cleansing our sins from our life, so we can continue in our walk in His light, the light.  To walk with him in righteousness.

Next is the section Going Deeper followed by Exploring the Meaning.  Catch ya later gators.

When we confess our sins, we are agreeing with God about them.  As a Christian, I know I have an advocate with the Father.  In the book it states that when we agree with God in reference to our sin, it shows we hate our sin.  I never looked at confession as a way of hate, but I ponder a moment on this and it makes total sense.  If I loved my sin, then I would have no reason to go to the Father in prayer via Jesus because I wouldn’t need forgiveness.  But as it is, I believe God’s word to be true, and I am thankful to have Jesus as my advocate.  The truth of the matter is no matter how good I try to be or how hard I try not to sin, the simple truth is that I will sin.  There are many forms of sin, and I am not here to go into them.  Simply restating the obvious.

The book went into detail of what an advocate is and the meaning of the word.  This word refers to a comforter, consoler, or defense attorney.  A Helper.  Satan prosecutes the believer night and day before the Father regarding their sin, and it is Christ who defends us and brings an acquittal (forgiveness).  In John 14:26 and 15:26 the Holy Spirit is called the Advocate for believers.  The Holy Spirit works within us to comfort, help, and lead us.  He pleads our case before the Father in heaven.

Today at church I was reminded of the one who betrayed and who denied Christ in my Sunday school class and during the main service today.  Judas couldn’t not live with what he had done and ended his life with suicide, yet Peter cried and came before the Lord in prayer.  Peter was later restored.  Judas ..there was no later.  When we are weak, we should lean on HIS strength, not our own.  We are all undeserving of his grace, yet we all have it readily available all we have to do is go to him in humility.  Humbleness to recognize our fault and remove the pride to ask for forgiveness, once we have admitted our sin to our self, we must confess it before the Lord believing in His cleansing power.
